Some of you may be wondering why... but most of you probably already know why we'd want new boards. These ones... have problems.

[b][size=16]The problems of NeonDragonArt.com's current messageboards[/b].[/size]

[b][i]Security[/b][/i][list]We're using a several-year-outdated version of PHPBB2 that current bots have no trouble registering on.[/list:u][list]To combat this problem and save our forum from constant advertising from spambots, I made all registrations have to be activated through me.[/list:u][list]While this kept bots from being able to post... they were still able to register just fine. We'd have 50 bots register a day, and usually only one real person.[/list:u][list]This meant it was very difficult for me to be able to keep up with registrations. People would end up waiting weeks or even months because if I took a break, a huge backlog would build up.[/list:u][list]When a user registers for a forum... they want to be able to post [b]now[/b], not several months from now. Many users who eventually got their accounts activated would never post because they didn't want to anymore.[/list:u]

[b][i]Avatars[/i][/b][list]Users were unable to upload their own avatars. This meant they could end up waiting months for me to do so.[/list:u]

[b][i]Signatures[/i][/b][list]Signatures are broken[/list:u]

[b][i]Moderator System[/i][/b][list]If we were to open up registrations on [i]these[/i] forums, we'd have a lot of problems. Bot would get through, and we'd have a larger influx of users. This typically leads to a need for more moderation.[/list:u][list]These forums don't have multiple levels of moderator. There is no level that's in between mod and admin, where a troublesome spambot or user could simply be banned.[/list:u]

The new forums correct [b]all[/b] of these issues. Right now they're generic as sin, and very empty, but they function great! Really great, in fact. I have high hopes that we'll be able to make these our home for a long long time to come. I can't say forever, but I'm hoping they'll last a good 5 years

[list]1. You can register and begin posting to the new forums now if you wish.[/list:u][list]2. Your friends who were previously having to wait months to have their registrations activated can post within minutes![/list:u][list]3. Over the next two days, I intend to update the layout and graphics of the forum to be more in keeping with the layout of neondragonart.com. It is currently very generic. Do not judge a book by its cover: Though these new forums look very generic and not-homey, they are VERY powerful and slick. You're going to be able to UPLOAD files to your posts if you do not want to deal with hosting them elsewhere and then linking to them. You can even post flash! How cool is that?[/list:u][list]4. Once the layout has been completed, these forums will have 1 week of active forum time to transfer over and reregister.[/list:u][list]5. After one week's time, this forum will go into read-only mode. You'll still be able to copy over and read all the posts here, but you will not be able to make any new posts or replies. PMs will still work.[/list:u][list]6. After one week's time, the links to /board will be removed in favor of the new messageboard link. Bookmarks to the boards will still work.[/list:u][list]7. After 2-3 month's time, these boards will be deleted.[/list:u]

I encourage you to register your account at the new forums as soon as possible. Apologies for the inconvenience. It really stinks that everyone has to reregister, but this is something that is long overdue and a problem that's only getting worse.

Sweet.. new forums.. I took a look at them last night..and they seem to be a awesome new place. Oh did you know by the way you can still find the other old forum?..I went looking for the new new one again..and ended up looking at that one. Anyways thanks for upgrading.

I like the new forums too. Although this one is like a snugly old jacket that one holds on too, I would take the new one. Thank you for renewing.
