If you wouldn't mind a paranormal detective series I greatly reccomend the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher. It's a very compelling story told in 1st person with a great cast and constantly evolving plot. My favorite part besides the excelent use of myths (he actually uses multiple types of werewolves and multiple types of vampires :melt: ) has to be the dialogue and thought process of the main character. He's not just one of those dry annoying fellas, he's got wit and is a snarky little bugger. The first book is Storm Front and there are currently 10 books in the series, not including the comic and novella.

Magic to the Bone by Devon Monk is a great one that I recently read, though there's only one book out I had to finish it in a day because I got so attatched. Monk really draws you in to her world with great descriptions and interesting characters. The next book of it comes out in a few months and will be called Magic in the Blood. :eager:

Another series I've sadly grown attatched to that you may want to check of if you haven't is the Kitty the Werewolf series by Carrie Vaughn. I didn't want to like it at first D-: but it grew on me. It's about a Radio DJ who became a werewolf. While hosting her show one night she started a spark of conversation with some callers about what's real out there in the paranormal world and it became a big hit. While Vaughn isn't the perfect author when it comes to plots or build up, every time Kitty's show comes in to the picture I'm hopelessly enthralled. The first book is Kitty and the Midnight Hour and there are currently 6 books(I think...).

Sorry for the long descriptions. I just always find forums or subjects like this lack in a reason to pick up the suggested books. :3

Okay, I haven't read all the suggestions, but I'd like to give some too.

The A Song of Ice and Fire series by George R. R. Martin is pretty bloody awsum. A historical fantasy in a medieval setting with vivid characters and realistic conflict and consequenses - I could praise it for hours, but I'm not very good to get my point through when I'm writing English, but it's full of unexpected plot twists and it's a wonderful page-turner. Go read it if you love fantasy :amused:

The Discworld series by Terry Pratchett also deserves to be mentioned - it's a humorous fantasy series that beats all clichés to death with a scythe and a hammer in a hilarously entertaining way. I've become Discworld-addicted - I've read seventeen books of that series, and I still thirst for more

I suck at recommending in English xD Well, they're both two wonderful series, so you should really check them out!

Ah, and The Halfblood Chronicles by Mercedes Lackey and Andre Norton is also quite cool. It's got some clichés like the Chosen One and such, but the twist on the elves is certainly wonderful. The first book, The Elvenbane, is the best of the lot, and now Norton's dead, so we can only wonder when the final book will come :disappointed:

Yeah, that's it from me.

Yes I have! And I've read them too :3 It's a Danish series by Lene Kaaberbøl, but she translated them to English herself (and that's impressive!). I've read the Norwegian translations, and that's a series I enjoy!

I have read the shamer chronicles. They are very good. Thanks for the suggestions.

I think I might change this thread to a thread that is just a place to recommend books for anyone, in any genres.

a series that I feel is better than assassin's apprentice would be the Night Angel trilogy by Brent Weeks. picture assassins, but better and with magic.

Ah yes, the Night Angel trilogy is awesome. But, it isn't really appropriate for younger people.

I need to read more, so all of these suggestions are helpful. ^^

I'm reading Howl's Moving Castle right now, and before I was reading the Warriors series because I'm a cat nerd. XD

My friend told me about a good series called the Chronicles of Darkness, but I can't say whether that is good yet.

But yeah, Howl's Moving Castle is by Diana Wynne Jones and yes, the anime movie was based off of it. It's really good. There are a lot of differences.

^ Howl's moving castle WINS!!! also, i like the Avatars series (Tui T. Sutherland). I recomend them if you don't mind being confused until the last five pages of book 1.
