From Tayuyaxn on the Oekaki:

HELP !!!!! I'm having serious oekakis issues, and they seem to escalate. Firstly, you must understand I'm doing an animation strip using the oekaki program.

My Issues :
1) Resume Picture. At first it worked perfectly. Then I started to lose pieces of my pictures ; it went back in time or mostly, I just suddenly lost layers when resuming. The problem is that this not only happened once... but more like over ten times, I'm not exagerating. My lastest images being on the lastest layers... I lost them.

Thankfully I had most of them saved... but I had to re-do some of them, and some I'm just at lost what to do... and I'm not back up to where I'm supposed to be.

It being an animation means I *must* have my latest pic. Otherwise I'm in the sh!t, seriously. It's not just for fun that I'm doing this. I have a deadline.

2) I lost a picture *while* working. This was very disturbing. I hit the cancel button because I made a mistake and boom! my picture disappeared entirely. It wasn't done in only one trait, so it's really not supposed to be happening.

I've been having this sort of problems for two to three weeks now. So it's not just a one time thing... I never had any problem with oekaki, and I don't believe it's because of the number of layers ; I frequently work with a lot of layers and never had this sort of problem.

Any options to volunteer ? I'm not quite freaking out like this little deformed random doodle over there, but I'm close. Pretty close

Ah I forgot to add the 3rd one, which had momentarily escaped me.
When I hit the resume button, the java app does not seem to load completely, I only have a purple screen and it says it loaded just fine.

So I go back, hit resume, and unless I hit "yes" to "resume previous data", I get the same purple screen. And when I hit yes... it screws up. I even saved a new file, but same results ; it went back to where it started to be a problem, even though those parts of the picture had been deleted...

I've suggested clearing cookies, and downloading a newer version of Java, if possible. Does anyone else have any helpful suggestions? Thanks.

Those are some issues I've been fighting with myself, too.

It's not the version of Java.
I'm starting to think that the web browser or oekaki software is the more likely culprit, but I haven't fully resolved the problem yet on my end either.
It's difficult, because it usually happens to me after I've been working on a picture for a while.
It happens least often to me on this board, but it still happens.

Overall, it appears to be a problem with the oekaki board saving the animation. I think it may happen when the animation file reaches a certain size, but I usually see the problem manifest itself when I use the undo function.
I have never lost info or had my layers mess up when working on a picture with no animation, other than the way it merges my layers all the time... And loading a picture like that too often can lead to file compression problems. Artifacts and such.

Sometimes clearing all browser cache and cookies have helped me load a problematic picture correctly, but not always.

I'll definitely add a post if I discover more.

It was the web browser version. :)

I am able to cause several oekaki glitches when using Firefox 3.6 on my mac, but I can't cause the same things with the current version of Safari. It seems much more stable.
So, if anyone else was having this problem, they might want to upgrade their web browser, or try a different one.

I've been going through this too! I only recently joined this board and this is the first time I've ever done Oekaki and so it's not a great first experience for me D-: It completely reverted my image back to only the background layer. I tried clearing my entire history and then I could load it to ALMOST where I was. I tried doing it in Internet Explorer (bane of my existence) and it wouldn't load past the BG layer either.

I've been working on this since last night and I'd really like to finish it so I'm afraid to do anything else! :-m
