This is a topic that comes up from time to time.
There are benefits and disadvantages to allowing anonymous posting on the oekaki boards.

The main advantage, in my opinion, is that it makes the board more accessible to people. I know there are anonymous posters that would not post on the board or come here if they were required to make accounts. I think it is important to have an open and welcoming atmosphere on the oekaki board.

However, it does open up the board to spam, and without accounts we have had to resort to a few IP bans. If multiple people are posting from the same IP, this can interfere with other users, as well. If user accounts were mandatory, I think fewer people would spam the board or be rude anonymously.

What are your feelings on the topic?
Debate go!

If I like a site I usually end up signing up for it right away. So..I think yeah it would be great to have it be required for you to have an account, but then there are just those days that I forget to login also.. So good and bad things about it.

Personally, I believe that at this point in time, the option for anonymous posting should be removed myself. I don't think that it is asking too much for someone to provide an email, username, and password for posting. Moreover, it would not only make spamming quite a bit harder, and ensure that innocent parties who are in a public computer/i.p. address situation don't get banned along with anonymous spammers, it would also eliminate the issue where people forget to log in and are then unable to save their work, because doekaki will not allow the applet to be opened without being logged in when anon posting is not allowed.

Overall, it is my belief that the disadvantages to the allowing if anon-posting outweigh any advantages, though that is just my opinion and everyone can take it for what it is worth.

I think anonymous posting should be removed. It isn't very difficult to provide the information required to create an account and it would prevent people from accidentally not being logged in.

The good thing about anon posting is that if you have a pic saved on your account and you wanted to draw something else for whatever reason, you cant unless you post anon

I'm against anon. posting. It isn't that hard to get an account, it takes all of what? 3 minutes? I can just see the spam now...I say no.

I can see i am losing this battle, i understand why, anonymity makes people feel like they can do whatever, causing spam (and recently i admit their has been a lot of spam.) Do whatever you will, i have an acount anyway so it wont affect me

The issue with no anonymous posting is that if we forget to log in we can't post. :-( Though if things reminded you to log in instead when you tried to post that might work... :-/

Another issue is would you be able to upload drawings/draw? :-' The problem with not being able to upload would be if you forget to log in and work for three hours on something then it kills it! :why: So I think if it was a not then it would have to not let you draw at all if your not logged in. :-[

I think anon is ok personaly. It's nice for people to be able to test things out first... :) It might not help with spamming if it was gone, cause people can make accounts to spam with. :-P

A few things...

A.) If you have a picture saved, you can still start a new one and post it without losing progress on the first one if you are logged in, you just can't SAVE more than one picture at a time.

B.) Again, you are always reminded to log in when you attempt to draw... it will NOT allow you to draw if you are not logged in, so you would never again have to worry about not logging in and not being able to save.

C.) While it is true that people can make accounts to spam with, those can quickly be banned, and eventually whoever is doing the spamming will run out of email addresses/get tired of registering new accounts just to be rude/obscene whatever.

Sorry...it just seems like most of the reasons that people are giving for continuing to allow anon posting are not really...erm...well informed?? I don't mean to sound insulting or anything...now I gotta go and move a pic I accidentally put in the 45 min board when I was testing point A. =D
