I have two WIPs now. Here they are:

I need a bit of help on this one. It's Vampira, Chikys (I think, it's Spellfiretidecaller on DA) OC. Is the positioning correct? The legs are the spots I'm really not too sure on.

(Sorry for the bad quality here, I had to shrink it down and lower the quality to fit it on NDA)

This one's for weasl. Tell me if you don't like anything. Sorry it's taking so long!

OK, so here are some updates:

Are the legs OK on Vampira? I want to know, since this is my first time drawing anything from the front instead of the side. I also have no idea on how to do the back legs, redlines and critique is much appreciated! (Again, sorry for the bad quality, I needed to shrink it to fit it on the site)

And here is my contest entry for Chickys contest on DA, create your own monster :) (Again, shrunk) Not done, obviously. I keep on thinking there is something awkward with the tail, but I can't fix it. Any help?

Oh ya, and anyone have experience with Corel Painter? Because my colour layers nearly always turn out semi-transparent (even if the transparency is 100%), and no matter how much I colour over them, nothing changes. The background always shows through, too. The only way I can fix it is if I erase all the colour and start it on a whole new layer, and it's getting annoying, not to mention tedious. I appreciate any info on how to fix it. Thanks!!

Oh ya, I nearly forgot about this one, too. I drew it traditionally for jwindjackal's card game, but I don't think I got around to submitting it. Anyway, I found it, and loved it so much I traced it on my tablet to make it digital. But I still like the original better...what do you think of it so far?

Thanks!

And here is another WIP, Spazzy-Wolf requested a drawing of Jakob. I want to check in and see if it's alright before I add in details, background, etc.

I will try to critique some of your work as best I can.

The Greater Red Dragon

The greater red dragon looks pretty good, however, I think the wing is a little awkward. I hope you don't mind, but I yellow-lined your picture to make my point clearer. How you have the limbs right now, they would never be able to support a wing that big. However, they do look very nice with such skinny limbs and one of the animals in nature that has limbs that skinny would be the bat. So, I fashioned the anatomy of the wings after a bat to make it more believable. This is just my opinion of course (oh, and the lines for the head just help me draw the dragon as a whole, I have no critique for the head).

I would also not try making the red so bright on the dragon, right now it is so red to the point it is almost blinding. It also makes the picture very hard to look at as your eyes by nature stray to the more prominent colour which is red in this case.

I really like the design, and the colour of the fire :)

Contest Entry

I think what is awkward about the tail is the extreme bend in it, it looks uncomfortable. I found this great picture of a curved tail, http://www.whozoo.org/Intro2003/AmandaW ... 3_4497.JPG you can see that with a big heavy tail, the curve is very long a graceful, not short and sudden. http://naturescrusaders.files.wordpress ... zard4d.jpg This little guy is an example of a short, sudden bend.

I love that monster by the way :-)

Vampira You Dare Challenge Me_bak_bak

Vampira is looking really good but, the back legs need some work.
Animals do not stick their legs out like that. I've tried it myself and it was VERY uncomfortable. I tried to find an animal that had legs that were closest to Vampira's and I thought of the cheetah. I found some picture of them sitting that will probably help a lot. http://cache2.allpostersimages.com/LRG/ ... LPD00Z.jpg http://www.leansixsigma-aust.com/Sitting%20Cheetah.jpg and here's a nice side view skeleton of a dog sitting so you can see how the bone bends http://cache3.asset-cache.net/xc/dv3850 ... 6E1664D235

Hopefully these will help the leg situation :)

Jacob request_bak

Jacob's front legs look great and I love the flow of the body's form :) The back leg's ankle just seems a bit too high for me. animals' legs have their ankle close to where their wrist is http://visual.merriam-webster.com/image ... eeds_2.jpg
In, fact the dragon seems to be in a play bow position that dogs use so I thought I'd find a reference for that as well http://languagelog.ldc.upenn.edu/myl/play-bow.jpg

The snake also seems a bit off, I just get the feeling it's floating rather than slithering like this http://www.mark-ju.net/wildlife/images/ ... nake01.jpg I'm sure once you add grass it will look like he is slithering but I just thought I should mention it.

So I am done my critiquing, hope I helped a bit :)

Batty, I love you for providing pictures <3

As for Vampira, I hope you don't mind giving some advise on the wings?

Generally, the wings 'fingers' wouldn't curve like that. I think they would look better if you were able to see the joints a little better... Gawd that didn't make sense, so I looked up a wing tutorial =3

http://browse.deviantart.com/?qh=&section=&q=dragon+wing+tutorial#/dawnj7

And to end positive: I think you're very creative and that monster is just awesome!

Wow, so much critique! :eager:

Bat-Cat:

Greater Red Dragon

Thanks for the critique and the redlines :) The wing looks much better with a larger joint and such, and I've fixed up some other problems too. I'm just too lazy to go and save it to .jpeg, though, so no improvement pic here :crying:

Contest Monster

I think I've fixed the tail problem, but I want to make sure. I've also shortened it, because it looked absurdly long.

Vampira

Ok :) I think the problem was that I was basing my hind legs on what other people have drawn instead of real live animals. I'll make sure not to make that mistake again. I'm still working on Vampira, so I can;t give you an update picture.

Jacob

And OK, will do. The snake is temporary, until I can find something better to put in front of him. I tried a bullfrog all puffed up, but I couldn't draw one properly.

Thanks so much for all your critique (and the pictures!) They all have helped a lot ^^
. I'm glad you like the pictures, too! :D

Mith: Thanks for the help :-) For some reason, I've always considered dragon "wing fingers" to be long pieces of bone. I'll definitely start to draw dragon wings like this now :D I'm also fixing the consistency of the wings, since they looked all weird and warped.

I really appreciate the critique!
And thank you. I'm glad you think so! :-)

HydraTamer: Thanks for the comments! I'm glad you like them :amused:
