Here's a color concept for Ine, my Scalesona. I'm playing with the patterns on his face... what do you guys think about the patterns and colors?

Hey Ine,

First off, I really love the idea of having a "Scalesona". It's very original!

But, I think that the picture you've drawn is a bit... bland? Maybe if you looked at some references and went by those for coloration, it would be a bit more appealing to the eye. The following is an example of what I'm talking about.

I found some references of different lizards/geckos, and then I drew a quick example of a character. You can see how the realistic colors and patterns make the characters believable. I think maybe this technique could help you find the perfect colors for your Scalesona :3
It's really easy, too. If you have Photoshop: after you've found the perfect reference, all you need to do is draw the outline of your character, and then using an airbrush, blotch in colors. Don't be afraid to add on lots of layers, patters and details!

I hope this was of any help :-)

Sure, I definitely see what you mean. I'm not necessarily going for realistic, but basing it off of a real animal pattern would probably make it look better. Thanks for the tip. ;)

You don't necessarily need to go realistic, but yes, basing Ine's designs off of nature could possibly help. Lizard's markings are usually elaborate, anyway. In my opinion, making the markings realistic is more believable, and that's what I think makes a great character; a character which you can believe in, even if it's a fantasy animal, for example. But that's just me. So yeah XD

Good luck!

PS: You're getting very good at coloring weasl! That's something I'm still not very good at. ^^;
