Hey everyone, it's Weasl. I decided to start a new digital art thread! (I promise, this'll be my last time changing threads...XD)

I'm trying my hand at soft shading. This is what I have so far. I really want to work on this and make it "realistic"?
So any tips, comments, even harsh critique is fine.

Ok, I don't know how much I can help you, but here it goes...

First, I just have to say that I really like your shading. It's very soft and gentle like it should be. Sencond, (and I might be wrong) it looks like the scar on his eye is flat, unlike the rest of the body. See, if you look at a scar it's more of a bump, than a flat lighter piece of skin. And third, I think the nostril is too close to the front of the head. I also think you could give him more of a chin, but I'm not too sure about that.

It's definitely a good start! You know where shadows and highlights should generally be going and stuff, so uh... yay! Though if you want to make it look more realistic, you could attempt to play with the colours a bit or try adding a secondary light source. As a general rule of thumb, warm coloured light create cool coloured shadows and cool light creates warm shadows. Of course, it also all depends on what the creature's surroundings are, though in normal daylight, you're bathed in the sun's warm, yellowish light, and though the sun's light doesn't reach the shadows, the blue light of the sky does. You could attempt to add some blue to the shadows (or some other colour. It all depends on what colour the light around the creature is) near the darkest edges.

Objects also tend to reflect light onto eachother, so you could add some of the brown from the skin into the horn's shading close to where it attaches to the body and maybe even some horn colour right along the edges of the skin that touches the horn.

Uh... I tried to do a paintover to show what I mean with the secondary light source thing, though I'm not sure how accurate it is:


Not that I mean that that's the way it *should* ultimately be shaded or anything since light can be soft or hard or coloured or not all depending on the surroundings and so on. You could try looking up tutorials about lighting or light physics or things like that to learn more about light and shading and stuff...!

Hi Everyone, this is Weasl, or more commonly known as Rose on DeviantArt!

I probably won't get around to finishing the Keft picture, since I have other priorities at the moment...
But anyways, its been a while since I've posted, so, here's a few things I've been working on, the first being the most recent:



This was just a vent. A random character who I named Tear. The only flaw I can see is that the closest back leg seems to be a bit longer than the rest, but I'm ok with it. He does seem a little thin, but I think it suits him well, in a way :/

Also I'm doing a collab with ChimerasBlood (I'm doing lines), and I was wondering if any of you guys had ay ideas for poses. It's going to be of my dragon character and hers, but I can't seem to think of anything :/ Help would be very appreciated! (I'll post my progress of it too)

Just some updates:

This is a WIP picture of my character Ila. It's only a refined sketch at this point.



The following are some concepts for a collab I'm doing with a friend. (Sorry about the sketchy-ness)
On Idea #1, I pictured my dragon character randomly standing on my friend's character, Chimera. They both have wings in this picture.
On the second, Chimera is leaping over my character. She doesn't have wings this time (She has the ability to summon her wings when needed)
Picture #3 shows our characters just resting.
They are flying together on Idea #4

Which do you think is best? Some feedback would be great!

I guess the forums just aren't as active as they were before :/

Well, another art update, here.

So, this is a just a concept for (one way) Rose, my main dragon OC, uses her fire element. It's choppy and incomplete, I know, but this is only the concept, a WIP, which I'll be working on this week (In between working on other, higher priority pictures, like the ones above)
Although critique and suggestions are always welcome, I think I know how to fix it ----> like adding more frames! x_x

i think 1 is really cute XD That's the kinda think Chimera would be o.O like at Rose :D and pic 3 is cute ^^ Chim and Rose relaxing is really nice as well :D

This was a prize that I drew for a friend's "Design your own species" contest. It's a Fennec fox with wings attached to the front of it, a lizard-like behind and tail, and anntenas. It was fun to draw!



A wolf anthro I decided to draw one day.
