I've been trying to improve my anatomy skills and these things are the result of an evening of trying quite hard to improve!

Anyway, uh... The first thing is something I'm surprised I managed to pull off at all because of the angle. The times I've attempted this angle before gave me rather embarrassing results... o_O

And the other thing requires you to click on this link! Gasp! I'm not sure how I feel about that one. The pose is silly to begin with, and everything other than the head sort of bothers me because it doesn't seem quite uh... right. Somehow. I don't know. That thing was drawn before that dragon sketch though.

I think both poses are great!!! and the anatomy looks like you understand what's going on underneath the skin as well as on top :-)

i think the thing that throws off the second tigerhound one is actually the neck and how/where the head attaches. I think that it's neck looks a little like it is being wrenched awkwardly. It's a little hard to explain, I think it would be more natural to have the neck attach a little lower and more infront of the chest, because right now it looks like the head is coming straight up from the back, almost at a 90 degree angle, and it looks uncomfortable. Otherwise the rest of the pose is really great and believable.

Thank you! And I see what you mean by the neck connecting to the torso at an odd angle. I'll keep that in mind for next time, so thanks for pointing it out!

Great poses! The dragon's belly is a little rotund...but maybe you wanted it that way. The tiger hound looks really good, but for some reason it lacks a little energy. I read something about that in John Howe's new book, he made this great piece with a dragon torching a village, but said that it felt like to him that all the energy was just being sapped out of the dragon for some reason. He realized that the smooth flowing tail he'd given the dragon was robbing the piece of it's initial energetic pose, and so all he did was put a kink in the tail and it fixed it! Funny how the little things are so visually important. Great angle work though...very nice anatomy.

More thankings!

The tigerhound thing does have a rather undynamic, energiless pose. Interesting poses is something I need to work on that I don't practice nearly enough, though I was probably focusing more on the anatomy of that image than the actual pose, but still! I should try drawing more dynamic poses! (Usually I only really draw things just standing there doing nothing of interest... o_O)

And I didn't know how to draw the dragon's middle area from that angle and couldn't visualise it very well, so I ended up with something that indeed does look rotund...! I'll figure it out one of these days!

I think the bottom of its stomach curves down a *bit* too much, which does make him kinda fat, lol.

But maybe he just ate something big. o__0
I really love his feet <3
