This question (in bold) is for people who know how to use Gimp and Photoshop.
I use Gimp, and I've followed Photoshop instructions before. I've only been stuck when there's a difference in words/terms (i.e. Paths vs Vectors: same thing but different word). I solve these confusing roadblocks by asking people such as yourselves, so thanks in advance!

Ok, so I'm coloring a dragon, and doing so by following Neondragon's "DragonArt: Evolution" (that part near the end where Jess shows her readers how she colors). For hours, it was going smoothly. Then her text reads "group the layer".

That's where I got stuck. I don't know how to "group the layer" in Gimp.

So I ask:
Anyone know how to do this "group the layer" thing with Gimp? Gimp likely calls it something else... but I dunno what Gimp calls it.

EDIT: It is not "merge" (merge has been suggested a few times, it is not merge)

I don't use either, but I think it refers to making whatever layers one. I might be wrong, because I use a whole other paint thingy, and I don't use it much. D: If it is then, yay! I hope it helped you a little! :-)

Sounds like you are describing "merge".
It is not merge.

The two "grouped" layers remain separate after grouping. Someone is suggesting it involves "mask".

I think you are looking for "use previous layer to create clipping mask." I don't know what it would be called in GIMP. But with photoshop it's a clipping mask layer.
