I'm a vegetarian... but I'm neither an "organican" nor a hippy.
I've been a vegetarian my whole life, so I'm just used to being one, otherwise I might eat meat.

I'm vegan, and although I do strongly feel that all life is equal, and believe very much in preserving the world, I wouldn't really class myself as a hippy ^^ I probably do have some hippy elements in me somewhere though XD

I do try to eat as much organic as I can- I don't really like the idea of eating stuff that has potentially been sprayed with pesticides and all other manner of things :3 Can't be healthy ^^'

I've only been a vegan since Christmas, although I honestly wish I'd made the decision years ago. I've never felt better in myself (physically and mentally), and in the end, I personally just felt way too guilty to be eating meat when I have always loved animals so much and have always been actively interested in their welfare.

Another upside to my veganism is that dairy aggrivated my asthma. Since cutting dairy out, I have fewer problems with my chest :3

vegan no. but I do love my rabbit food.
I've never understood the concept of being a vegetarian ... it's still killing in the very essence. At least I never understood that part of it.
The health benefits for sure. I should mention that to my brother flute. He's got like... EXTREME asthma, since he was basically born ... I should suggest it to him :)
But we've always been red meat eaters... I don't think I could give it up. Kudos to you guys that can :)

But I do have a question...
What's the difference between a vegan and vegetarian or are they the same?

Vegans don't eat, use or wear anything that is made/comes from animals :3 So no eggs, dairy, fish, meat, honey, leather, etc. :3
Vegetarians don't eat meat of fish, nor wear leather, etc, but eat eggs, milk, cheese, etc :3

I can't answer for everyone, but a lot do it because it causes the least amount of damage. Yes, it is still killing something, but a plant is not a sentinent being, compared to say, a pig. If you pull a leaf off a plant, it doesn't react. You pull a leg of a pig and it'll move away, scream, etc.

So, to me at least, its about trying cause as little pain and damage as possible :) And I don't agree with the way the animals are treated these days.
So for me, it's not so much eating meat that I'm against, but rather how the animals are treated before hand. Personally I believe that just because you're going to eat something doesn't mean you shouldn't treat it with respect. :)

Some others do it out of love for animals, some are repulsed by the idea of eating another living being, some people don't agree with the methods, some for health reasons :3 There are a lot of different reasons that people are vegetarian or vegan :3 Depends on each individual person ^^

I have pretty bad asthma too- but it's calmed down a lot since I cut dairy. I've heard that goats milk does the same, but I personally think it tastes disgusting XD
Rice milk is lovely, and some soya milk is ok, but it depends on what you like I guess ^^

yes goats milk is absolutely disgusting, I must agree. Rice milk is good, but soy milk tastes funny to me >.> mum tried to trick me one time with it and put it in the regular milk container because she insisted it tasted the same... She was none to pleased when I refused to eat my cereal ...

I see. Well that's cool I guess. To each their own :) As long as it's for a reason and not because it's a 'fad' ... which I've found is REALLY popular here in college. Everyone is like.. 'I'm vegan because it's COOL!' Seriously... I couldn't believe it when I asked why everyone wasn't eating meat, and they looked at me and were just like 'because it's thein thing right now' ... I was just like ... :why: are you kidding me?!
I can understand the treatment part. Some of it, because there are farms out there that treat the animals excellently... well aside from the obvious end part XD

I'm always impressed with people who have that sort of control... I can't >.>

As I said before, I'm a vegetarian. This is because I think it's absolutely unnessecary to kill any animal to feed me. I'm fourteen now, and I'm a vegetarian since we went to a place where they kill animals, and make them into food. (Don't know the English word) It was horrible.

Since the moment I stopped eating meat, my health improved so much! It's really weird. I don't say eating meat is bad, though. I just don't want to do it.

I think... it has a lot to do with the kinds of meat... because the beef, pork even the fish... is all pumped full of junk... loads of junk. I personally don't like the taste of beef and pork..
But I've ben raised mostly on deer, elk and moose, and of course in summer fresh fish... Now that is how meat should taste. I can honestly say that last year I don't think I got sick, and I lost weight but we were on strict deer meat (my uncle has a farm and he had a herd living on his land. The town labelled them as pests and they had to be shot) so we basically had deer all year.

So... curiosity again. ALL meat is out? I've heard of some people that only eat like white meat, like fish. Are they just like.. pretending to be vegetarians or are they vegetarians too? Or is just like some branch of it XD
I'm so nosey 8D

Akeela: I don't get anything thats a "fad". It makes no sense to me :S Why try to be something you're not, just because it seems to be cool? Really very annoying to people who are something because its what they believe in (not just talking about veganism here :3)

It's the massive factory farms that I'm against. It's cruel, bad animal husbandry, and farming just seems to be a chore now, and not a way of life like it used to be. Some of the things that they get away with on those factory farms now is awful >.<- For example chickens are awful for being unhealthy these days because of what gets pumped into them- they become obese, and so that fat passes into those who eat it.
Some of the stuff they put in animals should be illegal. It's ridiuclous. And pointless.

I can imagine the meat you eat tastes really good Akeela- you can really tell the difference between something that has lived healthily compared to something that hasn't, can't you? The nicest meat I've tasted was boar meat from a local farm where they were wild roaming. It's also probably a lot better for you than meat from large comercial farms.

People who eat just fish are generally called Pescetarians- fish are still living, breathing creatures, so they're not strictly vegetarians if they eat fish meat :) Vegetarian means that they live on a diet of fruit, veg, nuts, pulses, soya, seeds, etc. So chicken doesn't come into it either really. Although I guess it depends on the individual and how they view it :3
I have a friend who eats fish but swares that she is a fantastic vegetarian. Each to their own I guess ^^ And you're not nosey at all XD I'm more than happy to answer any questions anyone has :3

But yah, generally if you're vegetarian or vegan, then all meat is supposed to be out :3

Mith: I know what you mean :D You just feel so much healthier don't you? Considering the fat content of meat these days because of the farming methods, it's hardly suprising. I was really suprised at how quickly you feel much better. I was a vegetarian for 3 months before going vegan, and my health improved madly after I stopped eating meat :3
I can imagine going to a slaughterhouse would be horrible >.< I could never do it :( But I've seen a lot of video footage >.<

Sorry for the long post guys >.< :P
