Anyone else notice the Google and Yahoo bots that have been on lately? Is that one of the downsides of the new set, where you can aprove your own, or what? Anyone seen any others? :chocolate: :pirate:

This type of site is supposed to control bots.. considering they can't enter the wordy thinger where you have to type in the word and what not. But the bots aren't bad if they haven't posted anything so far.

The Google and Yahoo bats are different from the evil spam bots.
The ones we have now are just indexing things on the forum so it can be found in searches.

Hate to be off-topic, but what are the evil spam bots? Are they the things that join up with off-the-wall usernames and email addresses like ahfalsglfg @ gmail.com, or are they the ones that advertise things? Or both?

The Evil bot things are automated programs that sign up to forums and spam advertising stuff on them. Or just don't post and have them in their links or whatever. But as all mods are now global, we can pretty much sort out any bots we see spamming anywhere, so in theory they'll be less of a problem, as you won't have to wait for the mod of a certain section to get on and delete it. All the different timezones we're in mean that there's not likely more than a few hours before a mod gets on, so if the spambots DO start spamming again, it'll probably be much easier to deal with.

I just saw
Registered users: Alexa [Bot], DrawingDragon, Google [Bot], Pargile, WhistleDreamer
at the bottom of the page. What does the [Bot] mean? (besides the obvious)

I.... is there anything beside the obvious? O_o

They are bots, they are there, they are not spamming. They're coo'.

Yep!
There's one named Alexa online right now. But I'm not concerned about the bots until they give me a reason to be. :D

Well, how does the site know they are bots?
