Hi all. I started lurking here just before the RP forums got taken down, then left for a while, and now I'm back now that I'm trying to seriously draw.

I'm working on getting a refsheet together for my alter-ego character, and I want to make sure I have the anatomy right before I go and make a final sheet. Thus, I have come here.

My main concern is how to adjust the legs/tail/torso correctly so that he doesn't look off-balance. Redlines would be appreciated, please.

I drew what's behind other stuff so I could see what was going on. I have a drawing of his face with a slightly different eyeball/proportions, but it's not scanned just yet. I'll post it when it is.

Thanks in advance to those who comment.

Have you tried drawing Skeletons, Lizards, birds, horses ect? You should, they help you grasp Certian Anatomy aspects, wich you seem to be lacking a tiny bit.
Sorry if i sound harsh, i'm not good at critique and typing things out the way they sound in my head :embarrassed:
Anyway here are some redlines i did for you
I meant for the wing bit
they dont have to be very thick, but you can if you think it suites the dragon, memory lapse when i did that part of the critique :D

Hope you can read it and make use of it, I would like to see the final design in colour!
Where the Left foot is, you could have a rock underneath it, so it seems hes standing on it :-'

Ah, thank you!

No, I haven't, but perhaps I should.

Here's the face sketch I mentioned earlier. Feels like it's missing something at the moment, can't quite tell what. Maybe some forehead mass?

He used to have a more humanoid eye structure, rather than a canine one, but I couldn't get it to fit on his face quite how I wanted it to.

I think with the head, is the forehead isn't "Too little" But a "Little Too Much". Try making it slope a little more where the eye ridge goes down.

An example of what I mmean is Thus: CLICKY!
CLICK ME PLEASE - And a few more Examples :} Most Dragon heads, unless they are suppose to be.. Cartoonish.. Don't have a massive forehead. Most of the time as well, the Eyes are positioned on the Sides of the skull because the crest of the head protects the brain.

I'm not much for the pure wedge-shaped head like that - I want to keep my basic head design as much as possible. Lately, I've been trying to lean it more towards a canine-type face. I'm doing that a little here, but my paper size isn't big enough to do it justice.

My next question is: have I made any forward progress on his front half/legs? I think he's more properly
balanced now, but his chest looks screwed up. I didn't bother with any details on this one (save for the birthmark), since getting the actual body better was my only real concern.

I'll get it right eventually

I'd do redlines if I could, but it's really late, so an explanation of words will have to suffice...

I think the problem is the spine needs to be slightly more erect than it is, not completely, but a little bit. also, You need less chest.

Here's an exmaple XD Just cuz I like them- Wyvern Example
Now Yes, I know not everyone has the same style, but I'm pretty sure you are over exegarating on the chest area. ^^

On the contrary. The chest area is actually pretty small for a wyvern. Wyverns are pretty much birds, just transformed into dragons. I don't know if you ever studied birds but they have an immense chest in proportion to their bodies. The reason for this is their chest is all muscle, needed to give the bird the strength to carry it's own weight. Your wyvern is bipedal, meaning it's walking on two legs and you can pretty easily work from there. There are animals you could use for reference such as flightless birds and dinosaurs (theropods).

My first point of advise would be to make those legs much more straight down to give the creature a more stable and natural look. Beef up the chest and wing arms. Don't worry about making the wings the right size, because if you wanted to make them the right size for him to fly, they wouldn't fit on your paper.

Keep it up and good luck!

Wow, the wings get longer with every redline! I did the original ones roughly after a picture of a bat wing I found somewhere online.

I figured a large chest would be the way to go, given that the character is intended for impressive airspeed.

I've got papers I need to work on, but I'll update when I have another attempt done.
Thanks, Lhune.

EDIT: This is how he originally looked, hence why I'm updating him: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KEZ9SDqI0yc
