saffron_shadow [Profile] 2013/4/19 - 14:37:34 WHAT? Saf draw something Pokemon related...Nah ;) This little dude is a made-up Pokemon I had from a dream last night. I just wanted to doodle something to show my face as it's been a while!
I really miss it here. I've been going through a tough time at the moment and in the little spare time I have I can't draw because I'm going through an art block for the first time in my life (which has been going on for about 5 months!) :S It's not so much 'what to draw?' but a lack of motivation to finish things. I need to change my style and learn how to DRAW FASTER because I just can't continue this way anymore! Even this 'simple sketch' took me hours. (And that's fast for me!) So if anyone knows ANYTHING that helps drawing faster please let me know! I still need to finish Miss Scythe's art trade from around Xmas time!
Catgirl, I didn't forget your birthday. I've actually been working on a birthday pic for a couple of weeks but my art block is really holding me behind! I'm so sorry, I will finish it I swear! Hope you had a wonderful day anyway :)
Docile_dragon, I even began a birthday pic for you back in November (but the Oekaki lost that one) so I'll draw another once I get through my art block~
On a brighter note, it's great seeing all your wonderful arts again :) dreyacira [Profile] 2013/4/19 - 15:43:22 But this is really awesome looking! I love the way you did the tail and neck fur, it looks so amazing, so many colors. And the shading on the body it really cool in comparison. I'm sorry you've been going through a rough time, I hope you can break that art block and come around here more! I miss seeing your art. lady_miragon [Profile] 2013/4/19 - 17:53:45 Love this guys tail and neck fur! It's so...ghost like. :c) I'm sorry to hear about our trial and art block. I hope that those resolve soon for you. I miss seeing your art here! docile_dragon [Profile] 2013/4/19 - 20:46:43 SAAFFFFFFFFFRRROONN! *tackles* Its good to see you back! I've missed your art a lot. I love the fur in this picture it looks so fluffy. I like the contrasts between the light and the dark in the shading to. The expression is wonderful to such a mix of determination and fear.
I hate it when Oekaki eats pictures. Take your time with it. I will be happy to get a picture from you whenever you have the time to do it. missscythe [Profile] 2013/4/20 - 4:40:17 Saf! Oh mannnnn it is so good to see you! I was getting worried something really bad had happened to you :( I'm SO relieved to see you're okay and that it's only been an art block troubling you, although I'm so sorry you've been going through a tough time, I hope things start looking up!
This character caught my eye - in fact I'm sure that tail caught everyone's eye! How in the world did you manage to give it that effect?! It looks so soft and looks as if it has so much depth! I love how it and the "collar fluff" heavily contrast with the way you've drawn the remaining parts of the character. Judging by colours alone, I can only imagine he is either a dark, psychic or ghost type? :3
Don't worry yourself with the trade, I know what it's like to lack motivation - trust me hahaha. Strangely enough, the other day I was thinking about drawing Peaches yet again! Just so that I have a picture of her within my now official style. When I drew her for our trade, I was transitioning into the style I have now, so that picture was a very plain and awkward style for me to take on. I now have a real urge to draw her again because of that - third time lucky perhaps? hahaha!
Great to see you Saf <3 docile_dragon [Profile] 2013/4/20 - 14:20:24 Oh and concerning changing your style. I believe you can do it! I started using a painter style a little while ago and it goes a lot quicker for me than my normal style. [anon]miles 2013/4/20 - 23:58:27 asdfhfhfhh saffron it is so great to see you again :^)
i'm really sorry you've been going through a tough time! while i dont know your situation i'm sure you can get through it if you just keep that bubbly and optimistic personality of yours! you are really strong and admirable and i'm sure things will get better soon. good luck to you. you always gave me such kind words and great advice when i was under the weather so i hope i can match that.
it's always so lovely to see your art.. your detail and dedication you put into your pictures is just phenominal. that fluff around the neck and tail is incredible. so many different colours it looks almost irridescent. [anon]miles 2013/4/21 - 0:0:17 whoops, *phenomEnal saffron_shadow [Profile] 2013/4/21 - 15:36:2 Aw, jeez you guys are the best <3 Thank you all so much for the support you have given me! It is precisely your words and kindness that has made me see clearly again and get a grip of myself.
I made some mistakes lately, I’ve let you all down. I didn’t mean the post to sound so self-absorbed. This post was mainly to directly and openly apologise to you and start making things right again! And that I will!
As for the picture, the contrast in styles was accidental. I wasn’t sure how to get a ghostly/smoky effect without drawing lineless and then I just got carried away with details lol. I would say ‘have a look at the animation if you wanted to see how I did it’ but the animation isn’t there! I totally forgot about the ‘save animation’ button D: So I may draw up a tutorial on the critique board sometime :) Also yeah, it was going to be a psychic type Pokémon with some mystical bands but I forgot to add those in so I suppose he’s a dark Pokémon now xD
As a heads up I may take some time out from current requests and art trades to try out different practices on the boards, just until I find my ego to draw properly again. Also I didn’t respond to you all individually as everything I said here applies to you all but thank you all for your patience and kind words, I appreciate every comment I get and in return I promise to make more of an effort around here as NDA is such a wonderful community <3 (Boy do I sound soppy xD)
P.S Miss Scythe I will send an email to you answering more of your questions
And Docile, thanks, I’ll give the painterly style a try :) docile_dragon [Profile] 2013/4/21 - 18:8:26 Painter style has been used by a lot of people, so its not mine. I hope it works for you. catgirl [Profile] 2013/4/22 - 8:2:47 Saff! *hugs* good to see you again. The ruff and tail look so ethereal and...otherworldly. I really love that shiney, silky, iridescent looking tail.
Aww, don't be sorry about not having finished that pic yet. And, I'd really be wrong if I were upset, since I haven't even started on your request! (have it planned, my current project is just taking sooo looong).
I don't know if I'm a really bad person to give advice on speeding up (because I so often take so long), or if I'm a good one (because I've done so much to speed up my really slow work with the mouse), but the best advice I can think of is to let go and try to work loose, and not worry very much about it. And, probably to sketch it all loosely, before starting to go in to the detail (I get carried away on the detail early *all the time*, I think it slows me down). And then, if you like it the way it in loose, gerat! and if you get carried away with the detail afterwards, well, that's fine, too. :D saffron_shadow [Profile] 2013/4/24 - 15:50:6 Docile_dragon, thanks :) Oh and it's great to see you again too!
Catgirl, I missed you too! Thanks so much, that's exactly the effect I was going for! Also I'm glad you understand but I still feel really guilty. I should have your picture finished some time soon though :) It's more detailed than originally planned but I'm proud of the way it's turning out for once. We'll just have to see how the colouring goes ^^' As for the request you needn't worry, trust me take all the time you need! I understand entirely :)
Also thanks for the tips, that's great advice! You hit the nail on head that I too also go into detail too early and get really fussy with it, so I know the feeling. Oh, and I don't think you draw slow at all! Some pictures take longer than others and I think it's great to have a variety of speed paints and larger detailed work. It shows your adaptability in skill and the larger ones are always worth the wait :) catgirl [Profile] 2013/4/25 - 11:19:28 Aww, thanks. :) You might have noticed most of my speedpaints are landscapes, when I add a character it tends to slow down a whole lot. :D Actually, that's why I started painting landscapes in the first place, I was drawing with a trackball, and had terrible precision and kept redrawing stuff on characters to make it look right, but if a tree was in a different place, of a branch was oddly crooked, it didn't matter. So, I could get on for a little bit and draw something and be finished (the first oekaki board i was on didn't have a feature for resuming pictures, I left it open overnight a good few times).
And I *sure* can't complain about you getting carried away on art for me! <3 (I sometimes think people have enough reason to when i do, I just take so very long sometimes) :D
