wolven [Profile] 2012/7/31 - 12:34:49 Cane and Elenduil sat atop a tree overlooking most of ellesmera, as the sun began its slow descent below the horizon, which cast millions of shades of Ruby, amber and an array of golden outlines came accross the clouds, so the city seemed somewhat heavenly in the last few hours of Sun.
Elenduil sat on a branch, her legs hanging off it, whilst Cane Hung himself from the same branch, next to her, so his vision was of an upside down world.
"I doubt I'll ever be able to get used to this." Elenduil said, her expression morbid as she gazed at the horizon after looking at Cane's knees, for he had perched himself so his legs suspended him, "You are really weird."
"You should try talking to Daedrid." 'then i will appear somewhat normal to her' he thought having spoken already.
"Where is your dragon anyway? I haven't felt the earth quake since That little tussle with Firnen."
Cane felt worried. though he knew Daedrid was recovering, and most certainly alive, he could not help but wonder where he was.
"He's recovering." Cane stated in a very blunt manner. Elenduil looked to him cautiously.
"Get the blazes up here!" she said, grasping him violently and bringing him up to sit beside her. He gave no resistance.
"You said you were a Rider when we first met. Where is your dragon?" Cane asked.
Elenduil seemed wary.
"She's elsewhere at the moment. Probably hunting."
Cane opened his mouth to press the matter further but seeing her expression, he realised she deemed it inappropriate.
"I'm sorry Cane, about our fight. It was an unfair match, nor was it in the sparring area, where it really should have been. I had my reasons at the time, so I feel I owe it to you to inform you."
Cane's ears perked up intently.
"as the queen's daughter, it is often deemed inappropriate for me to battle others without a schedule, and as I am sure you learned, my mother disapproves of it."
"Well that didn't stop you. I'm guessing you are quite the firebrand around here." Cane said.
"I'm the ONLY firebrand around here. I never set much store by rules and regulations. When I heard you had come to Elesmera, and were roaming about, i figured i would test your mettle. And i wanted to see what you looked like. I have never met a snow elf you see."
"It seems no one here has met one of my kin before... what the?"
The duo looked up to see a sky blue dragon flying towards them, a rider atop it. Cane stood up, presuming there was a message for him as the dragon was hovering in front of him. Elenduil remained seated.
"Snow elf-"
"Its CANE damnit!"
"Sorry... -Cane- our queen requests your presence with her at dusk, along with your dragon. He has gone missing though. Please find him and report to her majesty at once."
At that, the dragon left them.
"Fancy giving me some help? we could walk together?" Cane asked Elenduil. She looked cautiously to him.
"Sure. but before we go looking, I need to ask. You lied to my mother's face about not being able to use magic, why?"
Cane smiled.
"Morgorath' and 'Halduinarde', they are two Krosian blessings passed down through the generations of my kin. it takes practise to use them. I have plenty more that I need enabled, but they don't use energy, as magic does. I'll explain it to you later, now shall we?"
Cane stopped. Daedrid was shouting at him.
-Down here! Look straight down from there.-
They were the first words Daedrid had spoken to him in weeks, since he collapsed after fighting Firnen.
Looking down, Cane jumped down from the tree, and rolled to brace his fall as he landed in the forest undergrowth.
How he had never seen it before was a mystery to him. His jaw dropped.
Before him was what appeared to be a kind of corpse. The strange, beak-like jaws, the finger like wing-claws, the wolf-like legs, the long slender tail which all once belonged to Daedrid were hanging between two dead trees. Virnroot blossomed on the surrounding trees. The luminous syliva of the dragon seemed to have hardened on the skin, whilst the spiral horns were missing and the tendon-like conjunctions hung loosely from the corpse's gaping mouth. the tail curled around one of the trees, and the main body, along with most of the limbs had become badly dessicated and torn, as though something had burst out from within, leaving a few bloody entrails within..
-Turn around- Daedrid said in Cane's mind, sensing the emotions rushing through him.
Cane's Eyes widened with an expression of awe, fear, happiness and a sliver of anger for he beheld an improved version of his dragon.
-What? Why are you so surprised? I thought you knew I shed my skin?- wolven [Profile] 2012/7/31 - 12:41:5 Well this went much more according to plan, and i am very, very pleased with the result. I did however want the sheddings to look more hardened, and kind of dried up. I guess I am not really that good at that sorta thing, looking at the large areas of red. I really need help with doing foresty backgrounds etc.
Oh, yeah. C&C would be greatly appreciated and I hope you guys like the chapter. some C&C on it would be good too. pumadragon [Profile] 2012/7/31 - 15:17:19 It looks like and sounds like this shedding business is..........painful, maybe it's just me. My favorite part of this chapter was when Cane got mad because he was called "snow-elf" again. Lol, will they ever learn? [anon]skullzhead 2012/7/31 - 19:39:14 Who knew that shedding could look so terrifying! 0o0!
